A Look At Psalms 63:1 My Soul Thirsts
Psalm 63:1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
I was raised in Northern Nevada in two small towns that are smack dab in the middle of the desert. Battle Mountain and Winnemucca. Two towns that are only 56 miles a part. But in terms of quality of life their differences are as far apart as the earth is from the moon.
I have always marveled how the folks in Winnemucca were able to carve out such a beautiful community in the middle of the desert. It stands out as one of the more desirable places in NV to live. After living in Battle Mountain for 6 years, a town that was voted by the Washington Post as the "Armpit of America" Living in Winnemucca was delightful, a joyful time in my life. It quickly became the place that I call home.
But, for all that Battle Mountain lacked in beauty and grace, it was there that God became my God. It was there in that dry and thirsty land, where life often struggles to survive, that God showed himself to me in a real and tangible way that made me forever one of his people. There in that hot dry land, God brought me living water and personally watered my character with His presences.
Oh How My Soul Thirsts For Him
I am currently living in Florida in a small community 15 miles from the Atlantic ocean. There is water all around me, everything is green year round. Life is abundant. Ironically, it is here that I find that I am thirsty and longing for my God. Although I am in a tropical jungle it is here that I must rise early and seek Him. It is here that I find myself digging wells and and clinging to waterholes. As I look back at where God found me. I take a great deal of comfort in knowing that he found me in the desert. If He was able to give me life there in America's arm pit, surely he can give me life here in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Spiritually speaking, life is full of deserts and tropical jungles. I find that it matters little where I am geographically, sometimes I have to work a little harder to stay on top. But no matter where I am, or how I feel, the Lord Jesus Christ is the only one that can satisfy my thirsty soul,
Go and drink my friends, be satisfied
