Applying My Heart to Understanding: The Journey, Jeremiah 6:16

Updated on January 7, 2013

The Journey

In life, the road lies out before me and disappears into the horizon causing me to think the trip will never end. Deceiving me into complacency and steeling the importance of the moment.

Jeremiah 6:16

This is what the LORD says:
"Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls…..

The Journey

None of us gets to where we are going with out a journey. Long or short, the trip will involve a destination, a mode of transportation, a road, luggage, and the people you meet along the way.

In life, the road lies out before me and disappears into the horizon causing me to think the trip will never end. Deceiving me into complacency and steeling the importance of the moment.

My vehicle keeps me safe form the elements and all the bugs that hit my windshield. It is not very fast and doesn’t look all that great. It’s what I have so I make the best of it.

My vehicle is the understandings and perspective in which I view and make decisions. To deflect danger, I build a paradigm using lessons learned from my past. It is from there, I interact with the world around me.

Often I meet people that enrich my life and cause me to linger to take pictures and get addresses, or people that make me drive away like a mad man cursing and pounding my hands on the steering wheel. Good or bad I take a piece of these people away with me placing their memory in my trunk with the rest of my luggage.

Lord knows I have luggage, things that I am sure I need for my comfort and health for the journey. I always pack more then I need and I unpack more than I took. In life, luggage represents the emotional reactions and consequences that occur in personal relationships and experiences.

When my days are over and my journey is at an end. I will exit my mile worn 1968 Chevy Paradigm to embrace Him whom I have traveled so far to see. He and I will open the scrap book of my life’s journey, discussing His purposes in each stop along the way. I will look back and reflect on all that has transpired.

My eyes will look upon the photos taken of those who hated me and will be reminded of those whom I have hated. I will give thanks for those who loved me, those who traveled along side. I will joyfully look upon the memories of my wife and children whose journey for a time, was interlaced with mine.

The road would have been to long if it had not been for these, I hear Him say, for the longest journey is not the one with the most miles, but the one in which you travel alone

In Christ
