In a world where the lines between good and evil and black and white to often get blended together or blurred. It is hard to know what sort of things to believe in. Over the years I have believed many different things, some good and some bad. I can tell you first hand that those beliefs that enabled me to endure hardship are the ones that I cling to like a man lost at sea, clinging to a life raft. Despite what some might think, doctrine matters! What we believe defines who we are. What we believe determines our moral character, our stability in hardship, and in some circumstances, whether we live or die. Hardship is the proving ground for solid doctrine. For when we are tested, the strength and quality of our faith is seen. If the things we believe are sound; like Job, we too shall come forth as gold.

Job 23:10
But He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

Bad doctrine destroys, destabilizes and brings death. It controls through manipulation and guilt. It twists the truth and abandons in times of trial leaving us vulnerable, naked, and ashamed. How do I know the quality of my doctrines? When I remain against a vicious tide. When the waves crash all around me, yet I stand. When the winds press hard against me, yet I yield not. It is tested when I am weak and He makes me strong.

My Anchor has been proven again and and again by the storms of life. My Doctrines, my faith, are securely fastened to the solid rock that is God's Word, the Lord Jesus Christ

My Anchor Holds.

The Solid Rock

If your like me, raised in church, you have probably heard and sung this song many times in your life. It is a song written by Edward Mote back in 1834. Since then, it has become a part of our Christian heritage, Christian worship, as well as, a declaration of faith. The Hymn speaks of the stability that our faith in Christ brings in times of hardship and trial.

If you are going through some hard times right now, do yourself a favor and read the words to this Hymn, before and while, you listen to Dan Loewen in the video below. It will help drive the message home. I expect this song will become a source of encouragement to you just as it has to me.

The Solid Rock

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

In Christ
