Lane Furniture gets a Three Star Rating from Rushing Furniture Repair.

Updated on July 31, 2012

I have been in the furniture Industry over 25 years. In that time, I have managed three stores and sold an awful lot of furniture. I can say honestly that I know the furniture Industry. In January of 2000, I started Rushing Furniture Repair and more recently, I started writing reviews hoping to aid my friends and family in buying quality furniture. I developed a 5 star rating system for the furniture I review. Before I give a product my stamp of approval, I check and rate, 5 major areas that are important to the end user

  • The over all quality of the product
  • Manufactures warranty
  • After sale customer service.
  • Location of manufactures
  • Pricing- Is it worth what it costs.

To that end, I am giving Lane Industries 3 stars.

Quality: Half A Star.

One of the first things I ask is, will this product deliver what it promises? Lane Industry is best known for cedar chests and reclining furniture. Formed originally by John Lane in 1912, they gradually built their reputation on delivering quality product that lasted. Sadly, in today’s market they have not been able to retain that reputation. Due to a larger, more competitive, global market, and a struggling American economy, they have become a low to middle ranged manufacturer. The product that you purchased from Lane today is not as good as the product you purchased 20 years ago. In all fairness, this can be said of most American furniture manufactures. Lane has my respect for remaining in business when many others have failed. Today, Lane Industries is holding their own and, in my opinion, deliver what they promise. While they do offer some higher end product, they do not pretend to be the best furniture on the market. If you are looking for an American made single recliner or sofa recliner that will last, on average, between 5 and 10 years with normal to high usage, Lane’s furniture is a good choice.

Manufactures Warranty: Half A Star

Lane’s Warranty on their furniture is as good as the majority manufacturers. Basically they expect to stand by their wood product for one year and up to seven years on their reclining furniture. They will replace frames for 5 years, foams for 2 years, and their covers for one year from the date of delivery. If you have any problems with your product with in the first year, Lane will pay for parts and service. After that first year they will provide parts but you will be responsible for any labor charges needed for installation. They do have some products with extended warranties; make sure you check before you buy.

After Sale Customer Service: 1 Star

It is here that Lane industries shine. They have developed the most consumer friendly system I have ever dealt with. As a service technician I see how the majority of manufactures treat their customers after the furniture is in their home. I have found that Lane Ind. Go further and try harder, on average, than the majority.

If you as a consumer can not get satisfaction from the dealer, you can take your appeal directly to Lane. They have people like me that are not connected to the store who can come and honestly appraise your situation. I can assure you that if they can, they will remedy your situation. Keep in mind that Lane is looking at manufacturing defects. Abuse and preference issues will not be resolved by Lane Industries,

To request service go to www.lanefurniture.com and find the “contact us” link at the bottom of the page. Fill out their request form and they will respond to you via email, recommending several service centers in your area that you can trust.

If you live in Florida between Jacksonville and Sanford you can contact me at www.rushingrepair.com as I am an authorized Lane Service Center. I will see what I can do.

Geography of Manufactures: Half A Star

Despite the fact that Lane industries is an American company, I am only able to award them with half a star for they, like the majority of American manufactures, are importing more and more of their product from over seas.

When it comes to customer service, it is imperative that I am able to get replacement parts quickly. When the parts come from other countries, there is huge delay in shipping and often replacement parts are unavailable altogether.

Currently I have not had any problems getting replacement parts for my Lane customers, however my experience tells me that the more they manufacture outside the US. The more problems I will have. I suspect it is just a matter of time.

Pricing- Is it worth what it Costs: Half A Star

Over the years, I have learned to recognize if a piece of furniture is worth the asking price. It is a sad reality, when it comes to furniture, you do not always get what you pay for. The cost of a piece of furniture is a reflection of the overhead of the furniture Store. That is why the same product will sell at a different price at different stores. With this in mind it is essential that you buy your furniture from a reputable furniture store. Even so you can expect Lane’s products to fall within a certain price range. Keep in mind that Lane Industries target the mid-level price points. If you are in the market for a Lane recliner you can expect to pay between $499 and $899 for a regular recliner and between $1,100 and $2,000 if you put that same recliner in leather. This, in my opinion, is a little high. However, if you are a smart shopper you can get those prices down.

In reality all new furniture is expensive. Lane Furniture is no exception. But if you are looking for a recliner that is with in reach of the average budget with fair reliability and excellent after sale customer service. It is my opinion that Lane Industries is a reasonable choice.
